Hello darlings! This week on the Real Side of Beauty we are talking all things lips. Everything from do’s/don’ts, favorite lip products, and even a routine that will ensure healthy beautiful lips.
The do’s and don’ts are more don’ts than anything. I got into a bad habit of licking my lips when they felt dry, but this only dries them out more creating chapped lips. You do want to moisturize your lips, but you should use a balm or treatment. However, you don’t want to over apply.
*Pro Tip: Try to avoid petroleum jelly or a petroleum product. As well as paraffin products. This just coats the lips from moisture, making your lips more dry.*
So, let’s dive right into my routine! (which will include my favorite products.)
First things first, EXFOLIATE! Using a sugar scrub can help take off dry skin as well as promote circulation to really help the health of your lips. Now you can either D.I.Y. or like me use a product already made. My two favorite lip scrubs are Elf Brown Sugar and Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub.
*Pro Tip: The elf scrub is much more intense and personally I believe it to be the better of the two.*
Second step is hydrating those scrubbed up lips! I usually do this routine at night so I prefer a lip treatment. I could write a whole post on the Kiehl’s Buttermask. It is honestly game changing. I highly recommend this treatment if you don’t mind the cost. For daily moisture I use either Nars Afterglow Lip Balm in Orgasm or The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter.
Now lastly, (or the final step) is lip color. Now I could tell you a hundred lipstick favorites. But we all have lives so I will tell you two I’ve been wearing pretty much everyday for the last month or so. Revlon Kiss Plumping Lip Crème (shade 530 peony buff) YSL Rouge Pur Couture (Shade 70)
I want to wrap this up by saying that I know adding extra steps to a beauty routine can seem kind of daunting. Believe me these small steps will help. I haven’t had chapped lips since I can remember and they always look super healthy and soft.
Let me know if you try any of these steps or products in the comment section. As well as your opinion on lip fillers! I’ve been thinking about getting some for awhile now because of my uneven top lip.
